Omer Meir Wellber was appointed Music Director of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia for the 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. As successor to Lorin Maazel, Wellber’s appointment came at the age of 29, with an extensive background as an opera conductor, and over a decade of conducting experience both in Israel and Berlin.

Prior to the appointment, Wellber was the principal guest conductor at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia for the 2010-11 season. At the Palau Wellber conducted Verdi’s Aida, Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore, Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov, Tosca, two works by de Falla, La vida breve and El amor brujo, Rigoletto, Il Barbiere di Siviglia and I due Foscari with Plácido Domingo.
